What's The Difference Between EQ And Spectral Enhancement?

Since EQ and Spectral Enhancement have similar processing qualities, and both can be used to make a song brighter and sometimes clearer, I'm going to explain the main differences between the two.

I would say I use 5-Band Standard EQ in 100% of the songs I master. Even if it's 1db somewhere, it's used. Spectral Enhancement, I use probably 80% of the time. If I don't use it in the UPPER-MIDS, because they're already too bright, I might still use it in the LOW-end to counteract the brightness.

Lastly, if my UPPER-MIDS aren't already too bright, it's very common for me to use both processors on them. Spectral Enhancement for clarity, separation, and brightness and 5-Band Standard EQ to add more brightness, but mainly to shape the tone of the brightness.

Will I ever cut HIGH-end EQ and then Spectral Enhance that same area? Which are technically opposite processes. Great question! The answer is, yes (though not very often). If I have a super bright mash of noise in the UPPER-MIDS, I might cut it with EQ, and then Spectral Enhance it a bit to try and benefit from the processors clarity & separation properties. Does it work? Sometimes, but I won't know unless I try.
